Yes, I realize that I'm about a week behind on my posts, but there's just so many other fun things to do around here! I figured that I should write something about church last Sunday before we went to church again this Sunday :)
So, here's a picture of the church building that we went to last Sunday. It's located just north of us on the same road, so we pass it quite often. They have a branch that meets at 9:00 am and another that meets at 2:00 pm. We thought, when we had talked to some of the missionaries that we had met on the street earlier (neither of them spoke English), that the branch area we lived in met at 2:00. So we went to church at 2. We later found out that we're actually in the branch that meets at 9:00, which we're happier about, but that means that it will be our 3rd Sunday here tomorrow and we'll still be going to a new branch. :)
Picture of us before we left for church. I think putting on long pants and a long-sleeved shirt has got to be one of the hardest things Joe has done here. Yet another time in my life that I'm happy I'm a girl :)
There were probably about 100 members in the branch we attended and about 4 or 5 missionary companionships assigned to the branch, with half of them speaking English. We had hoped that a missionary would offer to translate for us, since that is what Joe and I did in our missions and that's been the case in the few other countries that I've gone to church in, but they didn't, which is ok. It gave us more of a chance to just listen to the language. And we were much more awake this time around, so not being able to understand anything was more endurable :)
They had all three blocks of church. In Relief Society the teacher just
read through the manual for the lesson, so I was able to follow along
with the Spanish copy they lent me.
Probably the greatest part of church was before Relief Society when I was talking to two sister missionaries and one of them asked me if my husband and I had any kids on missions. Yep. I've never felt so bad about my appearance in my life. Living here must really have aged us! :) At first I couldn't believe that she had asked it, so I asked her what she had said and she said it again. So I just smiled and told her that we didn't have any children. And she did the sympathetic, "Oh." With the look of, "I'm so sorry you weren't able to have children." My confused look must have clued her in that something was off, because after she thought about it for a bit, she turned back around and asked me how long we had been married and I told her a year. She just said, "Oh," again, but this time she looked a little confused. :) Awesome.
